Thank you for visiting our website, and welcome to the Global Bamboo and Rattan Congress 2018: the first international, policy-focused dialogue and knowledge sharing platform about bamboo and rattan.
Bamboo and rattan are strategic natural resources with the potential to contribute to green growth and sustainable development. They are also excellent tools for South-South Cooperation – an important aspect of INBAR’s work, as 42 of our 43 Member States are from the Global South.
After celebrating our 20th Anniversary on 6 November 2017, 2018 is a momentous year to share our achievements and discuss the way forward. Bamboo and rattan already make a huge difference in the efforts of our Member States to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, but there is more work to be done. In particular, there scope for governments, international organisations and the private sector to work together more effectively to fully realize the astonishing potential of bamboo and rattan.
We welcome you to join us in China from 25 - 27 June 2018 at the National Convention Center in Beijing to take part in a global conversation about substantial and unique contributions that bamboo and rattan make for the 2030 sustainable development agenda.
The International Bamboo and Rattan Organisation (INBAR) is a multilateral development organisation that supports its 43 Member States to include bamboo and rattan in their sustainable development action plans and green economy strategies. We promote innovative ways of using bamboo and rattan to improve rural livelihoods, protect the environment, and address climate change and issues of international trade and standards.
The State Forestry Administration of the People’s Republic of China (SFA) is in charge of national forestry affairs, as well as wetlands. The SFA is responsible for organising, coordinating, and supervising ecological construction, desertification prevention, afforestation and other relevant work in the forestry sector dealing with climate change and the protection of biodiversity.
