WELCOME LETTERS

Hans Friederich, Director General of INBAR

Welcome to BARC.

Thank you for visiting our website, and welcome to the Global Bamboo and Rattan Congress 2018: the first international, policy-focused dialogue and knowledge sharing platform about bamboo and rattan.

Bamboo and rattan are strategic natural resources with the potential to contribute to green growth and sustainable development. They are also excellent tools for South-South Cooperation – an important aspect of INBAR’s work, as 42 of our 43 Member States are from the Global South.

After celebrating our 20th Anniversary on 6 November 2017, 2018 is a momentous year to share our achievements and discuss the way forward. Bamboo and rattan already make a huge difference in the efforts of our Member States to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals, but there is more work to be done. In particular, there scope for governments, international organisations and the private sector to work together more effectively to fully realize the astonishing potential of bamboo and rattan.

We welcome you to join us in China from 25 - 27 June 2018 at the National Convention Center in Beijing to take part in a global conversation about substantial and unique contributions that bamboo and rattan make for the 2030 sustainable development agenda.
